Opposition lawmakers accuse Taipei mayor of buying votes with new milk program
Elementary school children in Taipei will be provided one free milk product a week. The Taipei City government says it launched the program due to a calcium deficiency among the Taiwanese population. Critics, however, believe it's simply trying to buy votes ahead of the mayoral election later this year.Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin visited an elementary school today to enjoy some milk. His New Year's gift to the children is a dairy product each week.Children can choose milk, yogurt or other items. The city government says it adopted the policy based on a Department of Education study which found that many elementary school children are missing a vital nutrient that milk supplies.Hau Lung-binTaipei MayorThe biggest nutritional problem among Taiwanese is insufficient calcium. Consumers' Foundation says caution needed when buying discount vouchers
During the just-ended Taipei International Travel Fair, consumers received steep discounts on travel and accommodation. But some complaints over time restrictions and a lack of guarantees have already emerged. The Consumers' Foundation warns that people should read the fine print when taking advantage of any special offer. Long lines at the Taipei International Travel Fair were filled with customers eager to buy discount vouchers for restaurants and hotels. But the Consumers' Foundation has uncovered potential pitfalls in these deals. Some businesses do not clearly state restrictions while others fail to list guarantees. Some vouchers contain messages such as "the operator has final authority over the promotion" or "picture for reference only." Regulations do not permit these practices. The- published: 22 Oct 2013

DIY oil presses experience boost in business as food scare lingers
Continued concern about the safety of commercial edible oils has led to better sales of oil presses. But the time-consuming process and short shelf-life make the do-it-yourself version of oil impractical for most people. Many people are curious about this oil press. Taking a closer look at the oil extraction process, we see the sesame being placed into the machine, and then the start button is pressed. The machine soon begins to heat up the sesame. It takes 40 minutes to cook the sesame, and then the oil extraction process begins in earnest, as the press begins to squeeze and grind the sesame. It takes 10 minutes to squeeze all of the oil out.It may take a lot of work, but you can generate edible oil from a wide variety of ingredients, such as sesame, peanuts, walnuts, and pumpkin seeds. An executive of Formosa Oilseed Processing Co. held a press conference today to deny allegations against his company.
